- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup ground hazelnuts
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup Nutella
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup chopped toasted hazelnuts (for topping)
- Powdered sugar or extra Nutella for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, ground hazelnuts, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract and Nutella.
- Alternately add the dry ingredients and the combined buttermilk and milk to the wet mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Top with chopped toasted hazelnuts and dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with additional Nutella, if desired.
Notes
- You can substitute ground hazelnuts with almond meal if needed.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- For extra richness, serve with a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
