- 4 cups day-old bread cubes
- 2 cups peeled and chopped apples
- 3 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.
- Place bread cubes and chopped apples into the prepared baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
- Pour custard mixture evenly over the bread and apples, gently pressing down to ensure the bread soaks up the liquid.
- Let rest for 10–15 minutes to absorb.
- Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until golden brown and set in the center.
- Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving warm.
