Apple Crumble (Apple Crisp)

A classic warm dessert made with tender baked apples topped with a buttery, crispy crumble topping. Perfectly comforting and often served with ice cream or custard.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss apple slices with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Transfer to a greased baking dish.
  3. In another bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, and salt.
  4. Add the cold butter and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Spread the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
  6. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with ice cream or custard.

Notes

  • You can use a mix of sweet and tart apples for the best flavor.
  • Add chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts to the crumble for extra crunch.
  • Adjust sugar depending on apple sweetness.
  • Best served warm, but leftovers can be reheated.
