- 2 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and cored
- 1 sheet puff pastry or 1 package refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup lemon-lime soda or apple cider
- Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream (for serving, optional)
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish.
- Peel and core the apples, then cut them into halves or quarters depending on size.
- Wrap each apple piece in puff pastry or crescent dough and place seam side down in the prepared dish.
- In a bowl, combine melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Pour mixture evenly over the dumplings.
- Pour lemon-lime soda or apple cider around the dumplings (not directly on top).
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, until dumplings are golden brown and sauce is bubbling.
- Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
Notes
- Granny Smith apples work best for tartness, but sweeter varieties like Honeycrisp are also delicious.
- The lemon-lime soda helps create a caramel-like sauce; apple cider can be used for a richer flavor.
- Serve immediately for best texture.
