Apple Dumplings

Apple dumplings are tender apples wrapped in pastry dough, baked until golden, and flavored with a sweet spiced syrup for a comforting dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and cored
  • 1 sheet puff pastry or 1 package refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup lemon-lime soda or apple cider
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish.
  2. Peel and core the apples, then cut them into halves or quarters depending on size.
  3. Wrap each apple piece in puff pastry or crescent dough and place seam side down in the prepared dish.
  4. In a bowl, combine melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Pour mixture evenly over the dumplings.
  5. Pour lemon-lime soda or apple cider around the dumplings (not directly on top).
  6. Bake for 35–40 minutes, until dumplings are golden brown and sauce is bubbling.
  7. Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • Granny Smith apples work best for tartness, but sweeter varieties like Honeycrisp are also delicious.
  • The lemon-lime soda helps create a caramel-like sauce; apple cider can be used for a richer flavor.
  • Serve immediately for best texture.
