Baklava Rolls

Baklava Rolls are a delicious twist on the traditional Middle Eastern dessert, made with layers of crispy phyllo dough, chopped nuts, and a sweet honey syrup. These rolls are perfect for special occasions or as a delightful treat with tea or coffee.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package phyllo dough (16 oz), thawed
  • 2 cups mixed nuts (walnuts, pistachios, almonds), finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the chopped nuts with ground cinnamon.
  3. Unroll the phyllo dough and keep it covered with a damp towel to prevent drying out.
  4. Take one sheet of phyllo dough, brush with melted butter, and layer another sheet on top. Repeat until you have 3–4 layers.
  5. Sprinkle a line of nut mixture along the short edge of the dough.
  6. Roll the dough tightly over the nuts to form a log, then place seam-side down on a greased baking tray.
  7. Repeat with remaining phyllo and nuts.
  8. Brush all rolls with melted butter and bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown and crisp.
  9. While baking, combine sugar, water, honey, vanilla extract, and lemon juice in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer for 10 minutes, then let cool slightly.
  10. Remove rolls from the oven and immediately pour syrup evenly over them.
  11. Let the rolls soak for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

  • You can use only one type of nut if preferred.
  • Phyllo dough dries out quickly—work fast and keep unused sheets covered.
  • For added flavor, add a pinch of ground cloves or cardamom to the nut mixture.
