Caramel Apple Sheet Cake

A moist and flavorful sheet cake infused with apple and warm spices, topped with a rich caramel glaze. Perfect for fall gatherings or a cozy dessert.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups peeled and finely chopped apples
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for glaze)
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 10×15-inch sheet pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In a saucepan, bring butter and water to a boil. Pour over the dry ingredients and stir until combined.
  4. Add sour cream and eggs; mix well until smooth.
  5. Fold in chopped apples and pecans (if using).
  6. Spread batter evenly into the prepared sheet pan.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. For the glaze, melt butter in a saucepan, add brown sugar and milk, and bring to a boil for 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
  9. Whisk in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
  10. Pour glaze over warm cake and spread evenly. Let cool before slicing.

Notes

  • Best served slightly warm with extra caramel drizzle.
  • Can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for the best flavor balance.
