- 4 cups fresh cherries, pitted and chopped
- 1½ cups granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons lemon juice
- 3 tablespoons fruit pectin (powdered)
- In a large bowl, combine chopped cherries, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir well and let sit for 15 minutes to allow juices to release.
- Sprinkle powdered fruit pectin over the cherry mixture and stir thoroughly for 3 minutes until the sugar is dissolved completely.
- Ladle the jam into clean freezer-safe jars or containers, leaving about ½-inch headspace.
- Secure lids tightly, allow jars to stand at room temperature for about 30 minutes to set.
- Place jars into the freezer or refrigerator. Jam can be refrigerated for immediate use or stored in the freezer for longer storage.
Notes
- Use ripe cherries for best flavor and color.
- Thaw jam overnight in the refrigerator before use if frozen.
- Jam keeps in the freezer for up to 12 months.
