- 2 cups fresh or frozen pitted cherries
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine cherries, sugar, cornstarch, and water.
- Microwave on high for 2 minutes, then stir thoroughly.
- Continue microwaving in 1-minute intervals, stirring after each interval, until the sauce has thickened and cherries are softened, about 3–4 minutes total.
- Stir in almond extract, if using, and let cool slightly before serving.
