Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (for buttercream)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp heavy cream (for buttercream)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for buttercream)
  • Gold edible spray or gold leaf (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Alternately add flour mixture and milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
  6. Divide batter evenly into prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. To make buttercream, beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, then vanilla and cream. Beat until fluffy.
  9. Layer the cakes with buttercream between each layer and frost the outside of the cake smoothly.
  10. Chill cake briefly, then apply edible gold spray or gold leaf for decoration.

Notes

  • Ensure cakes are completely cool before frosting.
  • Use a turntable for smooth frosting application.
  • Gold leaf adds a luxurious finish but can be substituted with gold sprinkles or shimmer dust.
