- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup unsalted butter (for buttercream)
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp heavy cream (for buttercream)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (for buttercream)
- Gold edible spray or gold leaf (for decoration)
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
- Alternately add flour mixture and milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
- Divide batter evenly into prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- To make buttercream, beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, then vanilla and cream. Beat until fluffy.
- Layer the cakes with buttercream between each layer and frost the outside of the cake smoothly.
- Chill cake briefly, then apply edible gold spray or gold leaf for decoration.

- Ensure cakes are completely cool before frosting.
- Use a turntable for smooth frosting application.
- Gold leaf adds a luxurious finish but can be substituted with gold sprinkles or shimmer dust.
