Magical Star Donuts

Fluffy, golden fried donuts coated in a sparkling glaze, giving them a magical starry look. Perfect for parties, celebrations, or a whimsical dessert.

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 34 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Edible glitter or star sprinkles

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine sugar, melted butter, egg, salt, and yeast mixture.
  3. Gradually add flour and knead until a soft dough forms.
  4. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, until doubled in size.
  5. Roll dough on a floured surface to 1/2-inch thickness and cut into donut shapes.
  6. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Fry donuts 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown, then drain on paper towels.
  8. For glaze, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  9. Dip warm donuts into glaze, then sprinkle with edible glitter or star sprinkles.
  10. Let set on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure oil stays at 350°F to avoid greasy or undercooked donuts.
  • Donuts taste best fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for 1–2 days.
  • Use edible glitter labeled as food-safe.
