Meatball Subs

Hearty meatball subs made with tender, flavorful meatballs simmered in marinara sauce and served in toasted hoagie rolls with melted cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  3. Shape into 12 meatballs.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and brown meatballs on all sides, about 5 minutes.
  5. Transfer meatballs to a baking dish, cover with marinara sauce, and bake for 15 minutes or until cooked through.
  6. Slice hoagie rolls and lightly toast them.
  7. Place 3 meatballs with sauce in each roll, sprinkle with mozzarella cheese, and broil for 2-3 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add fresh basil or parsley before serving.
  • Use turkey or chicken instead of beef for a leaner option.
  • Can be made ahead and reheated before serving.
