- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp red food coloring
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- For glaze: 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a donut pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract, red food coloring, and vinegar until smooth.
- Gradually add wet ingredients to dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Spoon or pipe the batter into the donut pan, filling each cavity about 3/4 full.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into a donut comes out clean.
- Let donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Dip cooled donuts into the glaze and let set before serving.
Notes
- Do not overmix the batter to avoid dense donuts.
- You can use cream cheese glaze for a richer flavor.
- For a deeper red color, add more food coloring as desired.
