Shrimp Scampi

Shrimp Scampi is a classic Italian-American seafood dish made with succulent shrimp sautéed in a garlic butter and white wine sauce, often served over pasta or with crusty bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine or chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Cooked pasta or crusty bread, for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil and 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the garlic and red pepper flakes (if using), and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the shrimp in a single layer, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 1-2 minutes per side until pink and opaque.
  4. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  5. Pour in the white wine (or chicken broth) and lemon juice, bring to a simmer, and let it reduce slightly for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Stir in the remaining tablespoon of butter and return the shrimp to the skillet.
  7. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, tossing the shrimp to coat well in the sauce.
  8. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately over pasta or with crusty bread.

Notes

  • Use fresh shrimp for the best flavor and texture.
  • Chicken broth can be used instead of wine for a non-alcoholic version.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes to control spice level.
  • Great with linguine, spaghetti, or angel hair pasta.
