  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks), softened
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup milk

  • 1/3 cup cinnamon sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cream of tartar, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. In a large bowl, beat softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until light and creamy, scraping the bowl as needed.
  5. Add eggs, sour cream, vanilla, and milk; beat until smooth and well combined.
  6. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  7. Scoop the batter evenly into the prepared muffin cups.
  8. Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle generously with cinnamon sugar.
  9. Bake for 15–25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few crumbs.
  10. Allow muffins to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. If desired, while still warm, brush again with melted butter and roll in extra cinnamon sugar for extra crunch.
