Tuna Melt Sandwiches

A warm, comforting sandwich made with creamy tuna salad, melted cheese, and crispy toasted bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna, drained
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped red onion
  • 1 tablespoon chopped celery
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices cheddar or Swiss cheese
  • 8 slices bread (white, wheat, or sourdough)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine tuna, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, onion, celery, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix until well blended.
  2. Butter one side of each bread slice.
  3. Place 4 slices of bread, buttered side down, on a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  4. Top each with tuna mixture and a slice of cheese.
  5. Cover with the remaining bread slices, buttered side up.
  6. Cook until the bottom is golden brown, about 3–4 minutes. Flip and cook until the other side is golden brown and cheese is melted, another 3–4 minutes.
  7. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a slice of tomato before adding the top bread slice.
  • Use your favorite cheese—cheddar, Swiss, or provolone work well.
  • You can toast the sandwiches in an oven if making multiple servings at once.
